Further EU unification needed to restore economic and political governance

Those who ever accused the EU of being an ‘economic giant but a political dwarf’ will soon be left with two dwarfs instead of a second giant, unless fresh federalist impetus be given to European governance.” warns JEF-Europe President Philippe Adriaenssens.

No less than eight months after the European Parliament elections, MEPs eventually gave their blessing to the investiture of the Barroso II Commission, just ahead of the informal European Council which will gather today for the first time under the chairmanship of Van Rompuy.

Call for participants - JEF international seminar in Bratislava

1262784419_logo_bratislava 02.pngGende® quality: Europe's quality?” is an international seminar organised by JEF-Europe and JEF-Slovakia in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia from 21 till 27 March 2010.

Gender equality both as a value and as a goal is enshrined in various European documents and legal provisions. Yet, the pay gap between men and women remains wide and the percentage of women engaged in politics and business in high-ranking positions remains dismal. The promotion of gender equality is considered as a precondition for achieving sustainable social and economic development.

JEF-Europe's contribution to the Green Paper on Promoting the Learning Mobility of Young People

1260879060_building map europe.jpgOn 14 December 2009 the Young European Federalists (JEF-Europe) submitted a contribution to the consultation on the Green Paper on Promoting the Learning Mobility of Young people.
Young people today have many possibilities to move freely and independently around Europe. However, there are still obstacles to overcome and chances to be made. As a general task to tackle would be to mention an increase of the possibilities to get education; the mobility increases with the degree of education achieved. Young people from educationally disadvantaged levels often don't know about the mobility possibilities and thus do not make use of them. Therefore it’s fundamental that education is improved and increased at all levels. Furthermore, we need broader informational services than present, to inform the youngsters about their options and possibilities.

JEF international seminar in Tarxien, Malta | 17-23 October 2010

The ultimate solution for a better life: (im)migration?” is an international seminar organised by JEF-Europe and JEF-Malta in Tarxien, a small village in the south east of Malta from 17 until 23 October 2010.

When speaking about immigration it is important to make the distinction between legal and illegal immigrants. Despite the obvious difference in their legal status, immigrants in both categories often feel unwelcome and excluded from their host societies, which is closely linked to xenophobic attitudes widespread across Europe and openly manifested especially in recent years, but also the lack of adequate policies and assistance of governmental institutions in host countries.
