Press Statement: Victory in Ireland... Europe can move on!
Sources close to the Young European Federalist (JEF-Europe) in Dublin show that the YES is advancing throughout Ireland. According to the Irish broadcaster RTE early results showed constituencies in the capital Dublin had voted 56% in favour, with early indications from Galway putting the "Yes" vote at 63%. An informal exit poll by the main opposition Fine Gael party estimated a 60% "Yes" vote, RTE said earlier. A clear picture of the vote should be ready by early afternoon and the final results are expected early this evening. Toni Giugliano, Vice-President of JEF-Europe and leader of the European Youth for an Irish YES still in Dublin stated: “We have it! The exit polls are very encouraging and we have defeated the propaganda of the NO campaign. Ireland has put its trust in Europe again. Thus, we are on track to ratify the Lisbon Treaty.” Samuele Pii, President of JEF-Europe also present in Dublin said: “We congratulate the Irish citizens that have come out and voted in favour of continuing the European integration process.” Press Contact Toni Giugliano: +44 (0)7756663312 |
