Call for participants: JEF international seminar in Barcelona
Catalonia/Spain | 23-29 November 2009
EXTENDED DEADLINE: 30 OCTOBER 2009
“Europe's Youth in Dialogue - Cultural Diversity in the Society of Tomorrow” is an international seminar organised by JEF-Europe and supported locally by JEF-Catalunya in Barcelona, the capital of region of Catalonia in Spain from 23 till 29 November 2009.
The core theme of the seminar will be Intercultural Dialogue (ID) and its role in overcoming rejection, segregation, conflicts and violence within our European society. Multiculturalism is an asset and ID the tool to discover and enhance this asset as opposed to turning it into a hurdle or burden.
Key questions to be tackled within this overall theme are:
-
How shall we respond to diversity in order to maximize the richness a multicultural society offers and overcome the challenges which can lead to exclusion and segregation?
-
How can we deal with problems of mutual ignorance and stereotypes?
-
How can we guarantee human rights for each and everyone within a multicultural society and what is the role of Europe in safeguarding these rights?
Our activity aims to treat the above questions by *trying to understand the intercultural situation in Europe by meeting the differences, *learning about possible instruments to deal with these differences, *treating the question of stereotypes, prejudges and discrimination, *experiencing intercultural aspects of society in everyday life.
The seminar will also offer a range of leisure activities enjoying the rich diversity Barcelona has to offer in architectural, cultural and culinary terms as well as in terms of its natural setting between mountains and sea.

JEF
international seminar in Tarxien, Malta
| 17-23 March 2010
“The
ultimate solution for a better life: (im)migration?”
is an international seminar organised by JEF-Europe and JEF-Malta in
Tarxien, a small village in the south east of Malta from 17 until 23
October 2010.
When
speaking about immigration it is important to make the distinction
between legal and illegal immigrants. Despite the obvious difference
in their legal status, immigrants in both categories often feel
unwelcome and excluded from their host societies, which is closely
linked to xenophobic attitudes widespread across Europe and openly
manifested especially in recent years, but also the lack of adequate
policies and assistance of governmental institutions in host
countries.
