Pan-European
Street Action for a Free and Democratic Belarus!
Who:
JEF-Europe (Young European Federalists) and partners
What: Street
actions to gag statues with banners saying: "Give the people of
Belarus a voice!"
Where:
Simultaneously in cities across Europe and the world.
When:
18th March 2010 - the anniversary of Lukashenko's condemned election
victory.
Why: Belarus
- The last dictatorship in Europe, at the EU's doorstep is a prime
example of what the EU needs to act on. It's important to highlight
the absence of a SINGLE EUROPEAN FOREIGN POLICY needed to address the
situation in Belarus as well as other global challenges.
How:
putting street actions pictures on the JEF website within few hours
from the action, so as to give a complete idea of the number and type
of actions across Europe and elsewhere.
European Olympic Team – Union is strength EU the best competitor
If all the medals won by the EU countries were to be added up, the EU could easily compete with the medal "giants" such as the USA, Russia, or Canada. The Young European Federalists (JEF-Europe) would like to use this simple thought experiment to promote European spirit in the unlikely area of the sports arena.
The Federal Committee meeting of JEF-Europe will take place from 26-28 March 2010 in Bratislava. We are very pleased to welcome the national delegates, directly elected FC members, as well as observers in the capital of Slovakia. The local section - together with JEF-Europe - is already busy preparing this memorable event.
Please find below some more practical information about the FC.
For the fifth year running, the Young European Federalists are organising a pan-European street action on the 18th of March 2010, to protest against and raise awareness about the last remaining dictatorship on the European continent. Lukashenko, undemocratically elected president of Belarus in 2006, has oppressed human freedoms ever since coming to power.
Further EU unification needed to restore economic and political governance
“Those who ever accused the EU of being an ‘economic giant but a political dwarf’ will soon be left with two dwarfs instead of a second giant, unless fresh federalist impetus be given to European governance.” warns JEF-Europe President Philippe Adriaenssens.
No less than eight months after the European Parliament elections, MEPs eventually gave their blessing to the investiture of the Barroso II Commission, just ahead of the informal European Council which will gather today for the first time under the chairmanship of Van Rompuy.
JEF contributes to the European Citizens' Initiative consultation
JEF seized the opportunity to take part in the broad public consultation launched by the European Commission to express its pro-democratic views on how the European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) should function in practice.
